Dedaelementi: Kinetic Energy Treatment. This treatment is essentially based on the transformation of kinetic energy, wich the particles bombarding a material are provided with, into plastic deformation energy of surface layers of treated material.
Microscopic particles with a proper chemical composition and a geometric form are accelerated till they reach subsonic speeds and hit the surface of a metallic component with predetermined angles. Apart of the kinetic energy of these particles is trasformed into plastic deformation energy of the treated material (depth between 0.02 mm. and 0.10 mm. according to the treated material). The above plastic deformation produces a compression stress condition till a depth which is a bit bigger than the one concerned by the above plastic deformation. The induced effect is a considerable surface hardness increase (abt. 30% hardness increase).
Lighter and lighter bendings, thinner and thinner thicknesses. As a consequence this kind of bendings are more flexible and professional are more flexible and professional and non-professional bikers do not like this.
A special technique, the so-called variable thickness technique (tapering), was used to manufacture body tubes and to make bendings stiffer. This process allows to get a bigger thickness of the more stressed parts and a thinner one of the others thanks to many drawing treatments.
In the middle part thickness is 1,5 mm. and it gradually becomes 1,3 mm. in the lateral part, while it is steadily 1,2 mm. in the bent portion where the handle is.
The result achieved in manufacturing "215" bendings is extraordinary mix of stiffness and lightness.
The use of anatomic bendings has been spreading for many years and has supplanted the bendings conceived by past champs. Neverthless the last ones had and have the advantage of an easier gripping of the brake lever, if necessary. The gripping of all anatomic bendings is more difficult in case of users with small hands and not so easy for the other ones.
