WHEELS: Fulcrum Racing 5

Racing5 are the entry-level wheels in the Fulcrum® range. Ideal for training and for century rides they will fulfil all your expectations with their extremely high performance and long life. The aluminium rim has a height of 24 mm and its braking surfaces are machined to provide the greatest friction for the brake pads when braking. Braking on both wet and dry surfaces is more effective as a result. The hubs are oversized with sealed bearings with a high smoothness rating and easy maintenance. The spokes are in stainless steel with differentiated 2-1.8 thickness. The weight of the wheel is reduced in this way without affecting strength. Racing5 wheels feature two Fulcrum® design philosophies: 2:1 Two-to-One™ Spoke Ratio and Dynamic Balance™

2:1 Two-to-One™ Spoke Ratio:
the rear wheel spokes are doubled on the right-hand side. This makes it possible to obtain a rigid wheel, but with lower tensions and better balance. Usually when pedalling the rotation of the sprocket set causes the spokes on the freewheel side to slacken. When slackened these are no longer able to maintain the right tension in the rim which bends in turn and gives rise to torsion in the wheel, resulting in a dispersion of energy. Fulcrum® has found a solution for this problem by doubling the spokes in the critical zones.
This is because as there are two spokes carrying out the job of one, the slackening is contained and the normal wheel torsion is considerably reduced, the spoke tensions are balanced more correctly and the life of the rims, spokes and hubs is increased.


Dynamic Balance™
In all wheels, precisely because of the greater concentration of material in one point, the rim joint provokes a sort of "bounce" effect at medium/high speeds.
Fulcrum® has found an elegant and effective solution for the problem with its patented Dynamic BalanceTM. The two spokes opposite the jointed section of the rim are oversized just by the amount necessary to balance the two sections of the rim. The result is a perfectly balanced wheel without any bouncing in the rotation dynamics.

Racing5 wheels are compatible with Campagnolo® and Shimano® drivetrains and are available in black and silver versions.
