The Qarbon chainring is constructed from a combination of aluminum and carbon fibre. A 3k high modulus carbon fibre is wrapped around a machined aluminium core, with the use of the carbon exterior allowing more metal to be removed, resulting in less weight. The Qarbon is claimed by Rotor to be 8% lighter and 20% stiffer than its regular Rotor chainrings.
Qarbon: the right material in the right spot
Qarbon owns this principle by bonding a 3k woven high modulus carbon fiber sheet to the Q-Ring´s exterior side, allowing for a more aggressively machined aluminum section and increasing lateral stiffness while improving shift quality. The result is an eight percent lighter chainring with 20 percent increased stiffness – and an appearance inline with your bike´s sleek, elegant aesthetics.
Peer-reviewed scientific research has shown that QCARBON/Q-Ring offer a clear increase in performance compared to round chainrings. Elite level cyclists saw a 1,6 sec advantage in a 1KM TT study, generating 27W more power. For comparison, 60mm aero wheels often claim 1,5-1,8 sec/km and 16W savings.
